Food Access Resources in Central Texas During COVID-19

With the reality of the COVID-19 pandemic setting in, we have compiled a list of food access resources for our Central Texas community. From farmers' markets, CSA's, delivery options, and everything in between, we will continually update this blog with a list of ways you can ensure that healthy food stays on your table at home.

Farmers' Markets

PREORDERS AND PICKUPS AVAILABLE AT SFC FARMERS’ MARKETS

  • Hairston Creek Farm is starting a limited add-on CSA Pickup at SFC Farmers' Market at Sunset Valley, Texas Farmers' Market at Lakeline, or Pedernales. Learn more.
  • La Belle Vie Farm: Farmers' market pickup and home delivery of fresh duck (whole, breast, quarter) and fresh whole chicken
  • The Cake and Spoon Bakery: (quiche, scones, Chelsea buns, pies, baby cakes, shortbreads/cookies, fruit Galette, English Sausage Rolls, Savory Hand Pies). Contact Melissa at 512-426-7697 or [email protected] by Wednesday for Saturday pickups

  • Chow Hound Raw: (Raw dog food, Treats, Chews). Home delivery or market pickup, text 512-787-2031 or email [email protected] by Friday at 3 pm for market pickup.
  • Native Roots Salsa Company and Goldenwood Mushrooms: email [email protected] by Friday at 5 for market pickup.
  • Ninja Pig: (Brisket, pork belly & pulled pork by the 1/2 pound and fresh made tortillas) text 512-980-0072 by Friday at 5 for pickup order at the market.
  • The Sourdough Project: (Sourdough Crackers and sourdough starter) contact by 4 pm Friday for pickup at market.
  • Lemon Tree Herbs: (Herbal tinctures, elixirs and cordials for supporting immune system, managing stress and lifting the spirits.) DM on instagram by Friday at 2 for market pick up.
  • Shirttail Creek Farm: (Grass fed Beef, Pasture Raised Chicken, Pasture Raised Eggs) Order online at the website by 3 pm Fridays for market pickups.
  • Medicine Woman Herbs: (teas, herbal blends, and tinctures) Offering local delivery and pickup options, email [email protected] for more information.
  • Austin Honey Co: Email [email protected] or call 512-784-3279 by Fridays at 3 pm for pickup at market.
  • Flintrock Hill Farm: (seasonal vegetables and pastured eggs) Call 830-481-4272 by Thursday at 3 for market pickup.

CSA's

  • Central Texas Farmers Coop: Drive-thru neighborhood pickups from San Marcos to Austin starting March 31

  • Eden East Farm: CSA preorder “no contact” pickups at 755 Springdale Rd, Wednesday & Saturday (farm stand option is temporarily closed). Email them at [email protected] and they will send an order sheet.

CSA's now closed to new registrations

FARMS AND FARM STANDS:

  • Boggy Creek Farm: Open Wednesday-Saturday, 8 am-1 pm.
  • Ranger Cattle: Ranch is open 4pm - 7pm for pickup of beef. Learn more.
  • HausBar Farms — Purchase produce at cost directly from local farmers and pick-up from Rosewood (see below). Call or text Dorsey at 512-577-4731 with your order. She will arrange payment and inform Rosewood of goods that will be added to your pick-up order.
  • Indian Hills Farm: Offering on farm pickup and preorders of vegetables, pastured beef, fruits, jams, and sauces. Monday-Saturdays, 10am - 5 pm. Limited deliveries for large orders. Email [email protected] or call at 512 284 1582.

Restaurants and prepared food producers:

Central Texas Food Pickup and Delivery

  • Braune Farms: On-farm pick up/farm stand open Wednesdays. 3100 Link Rd Seguin, TX.

  • Peeler Farms Beef: Pick-Up in Floresville and Delivery Available; email [email protected]. 3007 FM 539 Floresville, TX 78114

  • Hat and Heart Farm: Fredericksburg. Drive-up pickups of produce bags and eggs

  • Green Bexar Farm: Serving the San Antonio area

  • H-E-B and Favor Senior Support Line: Seniors across Texas, aged 60 and older, will be able to place orders with Favor using a curated list of grocery essentials available from H-E-B.

  • Sala & Betty: Local Food Baskets. Orders must be in by 5pm Wednesday for Thursday, Friday or Saturday pick up.

  • Farmshare Austin: fresh and affordable local produce, eggs, honey, and other grocery items available for pickup at the farm in Cedar Creek on Fridays or at the Rockne VFW site on Saturdays. SNAP/Lonestar and Double Up Food Bucks are accepted.

Austin Food Delivery Services:

  • Farm to Table ATX: Home delivery of vegetarian and omnivore boxes with the option to add on any other favorites from their current inventory.

  • Farmshare Austin: fresh and affordable local produce, eggs, honey, and other grocery items available for home delivery on Wednesdays and Fridays, depending on zip code. SNAP/Lonestar and Double Up Food Bucks are accepted. Place orders here: www.farmshareaustin.org/mobile-markets

  • Lettuce Networks: Austin-based meal kit delivery with local, sustainable ingredients.

  • Prep to your door: Austin-based, work with farmers like Johnson's Backyard Garden to prepare and deliver healthy meals.

  • Snackshare: 100% locally sourced, full-service grocery delivery to home selected zip codes.

  • Vinder: Community marketplace app for people to list, discover, and buy local foods.

Access Points for Low-Income Families:

Local school districts are providing meals for their students. All others should call 211 for information on where to access emergency food resources. Visit the City of Austin COVID-19 website for up-to-date information.

  • Del Valle ISD Food Services: March 16 - Letter from Superintendent regarding school closures. Food delivery options for students.

  • El Buen: Food pantry, currently operating during regular hours open on Tuesday-Friday, 9 am-12 pm.

  • Hope Food Pantry: Currently implementing a no-contact, curbside mode of distribution on Thursday, Friday, and first Saturday of each month from 9 am - 10:30 am.

  • Meals on Wheels: Delivering food to Central Texas seniors.

  • To search for food pantries, Aunt Bertha has created FindHelp.org, a free social services search platform available in any language (Google translation). To search, select your preferred language, add your zip code, select the category "food" and subcategory "food pantries." To help Spanish speakers and/or low literacy people you can follow instructions using Spanish instructions food pantries.

  • USDA Hunger Number: If you require food during the COVID-19 pandemic contact the UDSA National Hunger Hotline: 1-866-3-HUNGRY
  • Use ConnectATX from the United Way to find food and other resources in the Greater Austin community.

If you are looking to donate food, contact 512-222-7769 or fill out this online survey. Central Texas Food Bank, Keep Austin Fed, and Save the Food Austin are pooling resources to get this food to those in need in our community.
